It is a "need for the tourism sector to rapidly respond to climate change if it is to develop in a sustainable manner, which will require actions to:

mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from the tourism sector, derived especially from transport and accommodation activities;
adapt tourism businesses and destinations to changing climate conditions;
apply existing and new technologies to improve energy efficiency;
secure financial resources to assist regions and countries in need."

Being aware of the economic, environmental and social impacts of climate change is important for all sectors, and in particular tourism stakeholders, whose sector is highly weather- and landscape-dependant. Sustainable forms of tourism can be part of positive development activities that support efforts to conserve biodiversity and indigenous cultural landcapes and peoples.

It provides state-of-the-art (2009) photograhic and scientific analysis of the reality of the health of the biosphere of the planet, and also shows the urgent need to redress the imbalances of unrestrained global growth if we are to maintain healthy ecosystems as the base of our national, regional & local economic and social activities.
